Wax is a tradition sealer and has three main types:
- Paraffin: it is a derived from petroleum and is usually white, colorless and non-sticky.
- Beeswax: it is a natural product that nourishes, strengthen and protect the wood.
- Synthetic waxes: modern adaptation of traditional beeswax on a synthetic base. They are usually harder, more durable and more water resistant than traditional method.
The advantage of the wax is the effect and natural colours. Generally it is used over oil but it can also be used as a sealer or just on its own.
Wax requires regular reapplication by machine and needs to be cared for. It can be more slippery as a finish but has the advantage of a different texture to the surface.
