The new season of The Block – The Glasshouse premiered on 27th of July 2014 on Channel 9 and features 5 teams. The new building is located in trendy High Street, Prahran.
We were asked by star’s couple Dee and Darren Jolly to supply and install their floor. It was quite a challenge for everyone as it was the first time parquetry flooring was featured in the program. Usually we need 8 to 12 weeks to produce parquet but for contestant’s need we did it within a week to finish the first room on time before revealing.
Dee was looking for an old european look, an old floor that look like it was already in the building. The based colour was hand-coated in our Highett factory prior to installation and was achieved with a chemical reaction that gives tone variation from board to board. Parquetry blocks were lightly wire brushed and grain limed.
To emphasize that old feeling we opted for the herringbone pattern, a classic of French apartments. Blocks are narrower and longer than usual giving an elegant style, highlighted by the bevel edges. The timber we used is a solid French Oak from Burgundy forests.
We re-waxed the floor on site with a Patina from Ciranova, an oil made in Belgium. This finish can be re-coated over time without re-sanding.
We also supplied the study desk made to measure and matching timber floor’s colour.
We will keep you updated with new pictures as soon as new rooms are revealed. If you are interested in this type of flooring, please email us directly on firstname.lastname@example.org.
